It's Watermelon Time!
Enjoy This Summertime Treat...

US MED Gives BackFor old timers (and not-so-old timers!) the good news is: you won't have to sneak into a neighbor's garden to get one this year.

You can see them by the truckload at the sides of roads and streets, and they are stacked high in the grocery store. But they'll only be around for a short time, so get one while you can. Watermelon is not only fat free and great tasting, it's a real heavyweight in the nutrition department. A standard serving of about two cups (85 calories) has plenty of vitamins C and A.

It has potassium, which is essential for the body's maintenance and plays a vital role in the response of nerves and the contraction of muscles.

Watermelon also has a healthy dose of lycopene, an antioxidant, that helps the body fight cell damage.

Many are locally grown, so they have a smaller carbon footprint than other fruits. Some say watermelon is a vegetable rather than a fruit. Either way, it tastes great.
